Practical Strength Programming and Load Management
Load management means matching training demand to the person and reviewing the response. It is broader than selecting a supposedly safe exercise or avoiding one category of movement forever.
Describe the full demand
Account for exercise variation, range, load, repetitions, sets, effort and weekly frequency. Work demands, sport and recovery also contribute to the week’s total stress.
Keep a stable comparison
Maintain a few repeatable exercises so the log can show whether capacity is improving. Add difficulty gradually rather than increasing load, sets and frequency together.
Respond to a difficult week
If sleep, illness or work stress changes the situation, adjust the plan accordingly. Persistent pain or neurological symptoms require clinical assessment; program variation is not a substitute for investigating them.
